GUIDING AT TSWALU KALAHARI RESERVE
Tswalu Kalahari is opening a third luxury camp, and we are currently looking for experienced, qualified field guides to join the team. The successful candidates will be dynamic, committed individuals with a passion for nature and people, and a real hunger to learn, grow and evolve. Loapi, which means ‘the space below the clouds’ in Setswana, is a luxury tented camp comprising of six exclusive-use, individually run safari homes. Each home will be staffed with a Homathi (private host/butler), private chef, and a private guide and tracker. Team work to deliver the highest quality, private safari experience for your guests will be essential.
ABOUT TSWALU KALAHARI
Tswalu Kalahari is the largest private game reserve in South Africa, spanning 114,000 hectares in the southern Kalahari in the Northern Cape province. At its core, Tswalu is a bold, regenerative conservation project with a vision to leave the world better than how we found it. Every guest who chooses this unique destination safari is contributing to conservation, and helping to safeguard vital habitat and restore biodiversity to the Kalahari ecosystem.
IN SUMMARY
The main role of our guiding team is to provide an exceptional, privately guided safari experience to every guest in their care, while always striving to exceed individual expectations, cater for specific needs, and focus on their special interests. As part of the greater Tswalu community, our guides are expected to collaborate and work as a team to consistently deliver a world-class safari and hospitality experience to all our guests.
QUALIFICATIONS
- • Minimum 5 years of guiding experience in a luxury safari environment, preferably in a privately owned reserve or concession
- • Previous private guiding experience advantageous – all our guests are privately guided in their own vehicle
- • FGASA Lead Trails qualification (candidates close to completing this qualification will be considered)
- • FGASA Senior Guide qualification (Level 3 preferred)
- • ARH & Rifle proficiency / SAPS Competency Certificate
- • Valid driver’s licence, and Professional driving permit (PrDP)
- • Valid First Aid (Level 2)
- • CATHSSETA /DEAT registered
- • Excellent communication skills
- • Committed to working as part of a busy team
- • Committed to building a strong working relationship with all trackers
- • Computer literate
- • Proficiency in English (Afrikaans or Setswana advantageous)
- • Ability to speak additional languages a bonus
REQUIREMENTS
- • Ensuring the highest quality, private safari experience
- • High standards of service excellence in a five-star environment
- • Working closely with a tracker to deliver iconic Kalahari sightings
- • Leading game drives, walks and other guest activities on the reserve
- • Participation in conservation and research-related activities with guests
- • Good knowledge of photography, botany, birding, tracking and astronomy advantageous
- • Physically fit, and able to work long hours under extreme conditions
- • Professional, presentable appearance
- • Charismatic and confident, but at all times deferential and courteous
- • Excellent communication, organisational and time-management skills
- • Extreme attention to detail in everything you do
- • Commitment to self-development and improving your knowledge
- • Contribution of photographs to the marketing team where possible
- • Impeccable employment history and contactable references.
- • Live-in position (accommodation provided) in the Northern Cape
- • Remuneration in accordance with experience and qualifications
- • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in South Africa
