Importance of ear notching rhinos

Each rhino on the reserve carries a unique ear notch number, a lifelong mark so that it can be identified by field rangers and researchers. The ear notches are used to record ranging and feeding patterns of individuals and to collect data on breeding that can guide future conservation decisions.

Guests can book a private ear-notching experience by sponsoring the cost of this vital procedure that is carried out on both white and black rhinos. In so doing, our guests become part of our commitment to biodiversity protection and research-based conservation in the southern Kalahari. Read more about our Private Conservation Experience.
