BOSCIA HOUSE POP-UP
Storytelling and local provenance have always been at the heart of Tswalu’s dining experience. Boscia House Pop-up, located in a restored heritage building dating back to the early 1900s, has been reimagined as an exclusive, stand-alone dining venue. This charming house, named after the venerable shepherd’s tree (Boscia albitrunca) that dots Tswalu’s semi-arid landscape, offers an intimate setting for fine dining grounded in the southern Kalahari. Guests are invited to experience a heritage-inspired tasting menu rooted in hyper-local, seasonal ingredients. The menu combines beautifully plated dishes with Kalahari-inspired elements, staying true to Tswalu’s sense of place.

ABOUT KLEIN JAN
Klein JAN at Tswalu was launched in 2021 with the bold ambition of creating a world-class restaurant that celebrated the heritage and flavours of the Kalahari. Over the years, the partnership between Tswalu and Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen has attracted guests from across the globe and played a role in strengthening South Africa’s reputation as a premier culinary destination.
Following floods across low-lying parts of the reserve in April 2025, Klein JAN has been closed for restoration. This event created a natural moment for reflection, and together with Jan Hendrik, we agreed that this is the right time to bring Tswalu’s collaboration with him to a close. We remain deeply proud of what we were able to achieve with Jan Hendrik and are excited about the next chapter — one that is uniquely Tswalu, inspired by our land, its heritage, and its people.
WHAT’S NEXT
An exciting new dining concept is taking shape on the reserve. Scheduled to open in early 2026, Boscia Restaurant will celebrate the southern Kalahari’s remarkable diversity and surprising abundance. Expect a transportive menu with a distinct sense of place that will continue to draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the dramatic seasonal transformations. Stay tuned as the next chapter of this extraordinary space is written.
